Physical Education and Dance
Our empowerment and our identity as sporting females has never been better. We provide the platform, knowledge and confidence to develop our students to become risk-taking, empathic and positive learners who are life ready.
Physical Education and Dance is about so much more than developing physical techniques and competences in sport. At HAB, in every lesson, we aim to develop each of the three pillars:
Motor Competence:
Development of fine and gross motor movements to access the curriculum and develop skills whilst offering time to practice and time to perform.
Rules and Regulations:
To know the rules for a variety of sports, how to successfully compete within a range of different games/sporting scenarios and the ability to make the correct decision at the right time.
Healthy participation:
Being physically active for at least 75% of the lesson, finding a passion within a sport whilst understanding the importance of life- long health and fitness.
Thus, embedding the transferable skills and skills competence for lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and the excellent understanding of health, fitness and wellbeing.
We systematically sequence the curriculum to ensure students engage meaningfully with each topic covered. Our high-quality curriculum inspires students to excel and succeed in competitive sports and physically demanding and creative activities. In addition, we provide opportunities to compete in sports and plan Dance performances that build character and confidence. These activities, year group interform, HAB representative sports fixtures and our sports day help embed the values of ambition, fairness and respect.
The Dance curriculum is designed to be inclusive and diverse, offering students exposure to a wide range of dance techniques that represent different cultures and traditions. By incorporating styles such as Chinese fan dance and Gumboot dance, students not only learn the technical aspects and artistry of each form but also develop discipline, coordination, and physical health. These dance practices provide more than just physical benefits—they help build self-confidence, perseverance, and teamwork, which are valuable life skills that extend far beyond the classroom. The holistic approach to dance education fosters personal growth, creativity, and resilience, empowering students in both their academic and personal lives.
