Psychology
We are delighted that we have been able to expand our HAB6 curriculum offer by introducing psychology.
We study the AQA A level specification for Psychology. This qualification offers an engaging and effective introduction to Psychology. Students will learn the fundamentals of the subject and develop skills valued by Higher Education and employers, including critical analysis, independent thinking and research.
Our intent in studying psychology is to develop critical thinkers who understand that, as a multi-paradigm science, psychology allows us to develop a rich scientific and academic knowledge of human behaviour and interactions. The key skills of application and evaluation are central to our understanding and interpretations and helps equip us with the knowledge and insight of the world around us.
Our study of the research methodologies and scientific processes alongside the approaches, sets us up well to ‘think like a psychologist’ knowing that there is often more than one perspective or explanation for a behaviour. This allows our students to develop an interest in Psychology as a broad academic discipline.
Thinking like a psychologist, for us means that students gain an understanding of the world beyond the boundaries of textbook and classroom, thinking critically, applying knowledge and understanding that the study of psychology can and does have a far-reaching impact on the wider world, not least in our understanding of everyday human behaviour but also general mental health and well-being and the impact of this on the economy.
