Year 7 applications
Harris Academy Bermondsey will admit at least 180 girls in Year 7.
Applications for Year 7 places must be made online at https://www.southwark.gov.uk/education-and-training/secondary-school-admissions/applying-secondary-school
If the number of applications exceeds 180, girls with statements of Special Educational Needs in which the Harris Academy Bermondsey is named will be admitted before others. All other applicants will be considered in accordance with the criteria below, applied in order:
- Looked after children in public care and previously looked after children who ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement/residence or special guardianship order), including internationally adopted previously looked after children
- Students for whom admission to the academy is essential because of significant medical/social needs. All applications under this criterion must be supported with relevant written evidence from a doctor or social worker
- Students whose siblings currently attend the academy and who will continue to do so on the date of admission
- Students whose siblings currently attend Harris Boys’ East Dulwich in years 7 to 11 and who will continue to do so on the date of admission
- Girls who are in attendance at Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park
- Children of staff members employed at Harris Academy Bermondsey
- Proximity of students’ permanent address to the academy using straight line, computer calculated measurements
Year 7 admissions - key dates
Applications for places will be made in accordance with local authority admission arrangements and will be made on the Common Application Form provided and administered by the local authority. The Academy will work to the common admissions timetable agreed by Southwark Council Applications for September 2024.
- 1st September 2024 - Applications for Year 7 places in 2025 opens
- 31st October 2024 - Closing date for applications for Year 7 places in September 2025
- 3rd March 2025 - The Local Authority notifies parents about successful applications to secondary school
- 31st March 2025 - Closing date for appeals for primary to secondary transfer. Appeals must be made by 4pm on the closing day. Appeals will be heard from Tuesday 22nd April.

For parents/carers who wish to appeal
The Local Authority notifies parents about successful applications to Secondary School on 3rd March 2025.
Parents have the right to appeal to an independent panel if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision of Harris Academy Bermondsey. Parents should complete an appeal form stating the reason for the appeal based on the published admissions criteria. The appeal form and guidance notes for appeals can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
The closing date for appeals for primary to secondary transfer is 31st March 2025. Appeals must be made by 4pm on the closing day. Appeals will be heard from Tuesday 22nd April.
Appeals lodged after the given dates will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is the later date.
Parents/carers will be sent notification of the appeal hearing at least ten clear school days in advance of the hearing. They will also be sent a copy of the school's case at least seven clear working days in advance of the hearing.
Additional supporting information
If a parent/carer wishes to submit further evidence, which was not included with their initial appeal, they should ensure this is received at least seven clear working days (not counting the day of postage or the hearing) in advance of your appeal.
Only a short document, such as a doctor’s letter not previously available, will be accepted up to five clear working days prior to the hearing. Any additional evidence or information received after this deadline will not be circulated and may not be considered at the hearing.
