Cooking Club Instils Love of Cooking - Pictures
The Cooking Club at Harris Academy Bermondsey aims to instil a love of cooking and baking and gives passionate cooks and bakers a chance to expand their talent further.
We thought you'd enjoy seeing some pictures from the club this term.
Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill for pupils now and in later life. Therefore, we aim to encourage independent learning through practical participation.
Our enrichment club allows pupils to expand their talent by experimenting together in the kitchen. Students are competent in a range of cooking techniques which allows room for creativity, innovation and problem-solving.
Some of the dishes we have made during Cooking Club include vegetable noodles, cupcakes, chicken curry and rice, chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread men, ravioli, shortbread, carrot cake, courgette fritters, potato wedges, lamb kofta with vegetables, halloumi and vegetable skewers, Brazilian truffles, pumpkin soup, shepherd's pie, and fresh pasta. Yum!
What students say...
"I look forward to food technology every week because we always make delicious dishes."
"Baking is very therapeutic for me and this gives me motivation for the rest of the week."
"I enjoy food tech because it gives us the opportunity to expand our cooking skills and knowledge."
"The teacher helps us tackle complex dishes with tactics which help me even when I am cooking at home."
"I always look forward to the enrichment club because it is my favourite subject and I can't get enough!"
The department has a strong belief that all students should be independent, enabling our students to develop personal responsibility and self-motivation and to consider the needs of others. This equips our students with a set of life skills for success.
