Penguins Teach Girls About Publishing Careers
Staff from publishers Penguin Random House, one of the UK’s top five publishing houses, visited recently to talk about careers in publishing to Year 12 and some lucky Year 10 students too.
Ten Penguin employees (known collectively as Penguins!) came along to talk about a range of careers and deliver a special workshop, with each Penguin talking about their work in publishing and how they got there.
They also introduced a new book called The Upper World, by Femi Fadugba, and asked students to get into groups and prepare pitches for the following departments:
- Marketing and publicity
- Editorial
- Design
- Digital development
- Sales
The Penguins were all very impressed with the work produced by our students and praised their creativity, focus and professionalism.
What students said...

- “It was a beautiful experience! It really gave me an insight into the world of publishing.” Kisanet, Year 12
- “I was really informative and I really enjoyed sharing ideas as a group.” Jeriel, Year 12
