HAB Team Competes At Federation Spelling Bee
Angelina, Natalia, Mercy and Angel competed in a spelling bee hosted by Harris Sutton this week.
They began by spelling collaboratively in the team round, and then each student stood alone. Angelina and Natalia competed with buzzers, Angel spelled as many words as possible in 90 seconds, and Mercy held her own in a last-man-standing round.
“It was really scary and pressuring, but we learned a lot of new things, like how to spell and the meaning of some words," said Angelina.
Her teammate Mercy also enjoyed the experience. “I felt supported because when I got a word wrong, everyone smiled at me and mouthed ‘good job’," she said. "I felt supported and confident and it made me want to win for my team”.
Harris Sutton and the attending schools created a very supportive environment filled with lovely young people who enjoyed getting together to spell anything put before them.
The HAB team did well but didn't win. “I think we did okay, but if we practised more, we could have won more points,” said Mercy.
