"The teachers I have met have been really nice”
New Year 7 students at Harris Academy Bermondsey have made a fantastic start to their time at ‘big school’, with their parents and teachers delighted at how they are settling in.

"The teachers I have met have been really nice,” said Niamh, who joined Harris Academy Bermondsey this September from Southwark Park Primary. “They make you feel relaxed and more confident."
Alicia (above left), who went to Wingfield School, said: "I have so many favourite things! But the best thing so far has been Dance lessons where we have been exploring new dance routines and in Design Technology we have been using different fonts and materials to make signs for the classroom."
Debbie (above centre), who went to Stalfege School, said: "The music teacher makes the lessons so interactive when he teaches. We have been learning to play the guitar in class and I liked it so much I have applied for guitar lessons."
Gabriella (above right), who also went to Stalfege School, said: "There are so many enrichment clubs to choose from, I love the idea of Hispanic culture as my family is from Portugal and Angola and I really enjoyed netball at primary school so I would like to learn more at HAB."
Faidra (above left), who joined Harris Bermondsey from Deptford Park Primary School, said she is "looking forward to learning more about the STEM subjects, especially chemistry." STEM covers Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and is an important part of students’ learning, alongside subjects such as English, History, Maths and creative subjects such as Music and Dance.
Starting at a new school can be daunting but Daisy (above centre), who went to Southwark Park Primary, said her new school diary will make a difference. “It will help me to be more organised and our tutor showed us how to use it,” she said.
Hanna (above right), who also went to Deptford Park Primary, said: "The pupils and teachers have been really helpful when I have tried to find my classroom."
GCSEs are a very long way off for the school’s newest recruits, of course. But when time comes the school’s youngest students will be following in the footsteps of this year’s exam-takers who achieved some spectacular results, including Sweatha who achieved five Grades 9s (the top grade) and four Grade 8s, and Sadia who achieved seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s.
