Journey Through Chinese Culture: Exploring the British Museum and Chinatown
On Tuesday 30th January, 29 Mandarin students embarked on an enriching cultural expedition, beginning with an insightful visit to the China gallery at the British Museum. This experience provided a comprehensive insight into Chinese history and culture, fostering a deeper appreciation for the nation's rich heritage.
Following the museum exploration, the students ventured into London's vibrant Chinatown, immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere of Chinese New Year. The air was filled with excitement as they strolled through the streets adorned with colourful lanterns and festive displays. Although Chinese New Year was still a few days away, the festive spirit was already palpable, creating a captivating ambience.
The culinary aspect of the outing added a delightful touch, as students indulged in traditional Chinese cuisine. Dumplings, spring rolls, egg fried rice, and Chinese Jasmine tea were savoured, providing not just a treat for the taste buds but also an opportunity for cultural exchange. The students embraced the chance to learn the art of using chopsticks, enhancing their cultural understanding in a hands-on manner.
‘The Chinatown trip was amazing! It helped me understand more of the Chinese culture and the Chinese food, which was very tasty and nice especially the spring rolls. And the museum we went before we went to Chinatown was great as it helped me learn more of China’s history.’ Stated Honya

It was a lovely and memorable day for the students, filled with exploration, learning, and enjoyment. The combination of museum education, culinary delights, and the festive ambience of Chinatown created an immersive experience that left a lasting impression on the students, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for Chinese culture.
‘Lunch in the Chinese restaurant was spectacular, eating different food and talk with friends about it. It feels like having lunch at home and family dining.’ Tiamaria shared.
