Inspiring the Next Generation in Computer Science
At HAB, we are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who support and inspire our students. One of them is Philip Bailey, Vice President at Morgan Stanley, who has been volunteering with us since 2014.
Philip shares his expertise in Maths and Computer Science, helping students build valuable skills that they can take forward into their careers. "It’s nice to help young people, and I hope they can take these skills forward into their future," he says.
As part of his commitment, Philip leads the Year's 10 & 11 Computer Science Breakfast Club, which takes place between 7:45 and 8:30am weekly. This initiative provides students with a unique opportunity to enhance their computing knowledge, gain real-world insights, and develop problem-solving skills in a supportive environment.
Students have found the sessions invaluable, including Megan and Tilly, both in Year 10. “We really enjoy learning coding and the skills we might be able to use in the future,” they shared. Tilly pictured right, said "I find that going to this club in the morning I’m able to advance in my python skills and knowledge so when I get to year 11 I’ll be able to understand my paper two concepts a lot easier and hopefully reach a Grade 9"
Philip’s dedication over the years has made a significant impact, and we are grateful for his ongoing support. His work is a testament to the power of mentorship and the difference professionals can make by investing their time in the next generation.
The new Computer Science breakfast club initiative partnering with Morgan Stanley opens up incredible opportunities for students. It bridges the gap between academic learning and industry experience. We are really pleased with this new collaboration as it gives students the scope to apply their skills in meaningful ways and prepares them for high-impact careers in technology.
