International Women's Day Celebrations - Pictures
Here at HAB we celebrated International Women’s Day with various events around the school throughout the day to raise awareness and conversations around this year's theme of #BreakTheBias.
Our exciting flashmob dance performance during lunch times took everyone by surprise! Ms Dawson and Ms Palmer our dance teachers helped prepare the students for this surprise routine.

“The flash mob was performed to spread the word and support International Woman's Day," said Ms Dawson. "International Women’s Day is a celebration, and that celebration was shared with HAB students and staff through Dance. Dance is an amazing tool for students to express their emotions and experiences. Both the students and staff showed their support for the dancers, and it created a lovely sense of community.”
“International Women’s Day means a lot to us because It’s a day for us to acknowledge all that we do as women and our achievements. We performed our dance to all HAB students, and we found the experience really fun. We were happy to show everyone all of our hard work and put a smile on their faces.” Faith and Esther, Year 9 performers
Girls Allowed programme
Meanwhile… the Girls Allowed programme visited us at HAB in celebration of International Women’s Day and we had a fun afternoon exclusively for all Year 7 students packed with a range of multi sports, from football, street dance, roller skating and more.
A live DJ was spinning tracks to ensure it was a fun atmosphere. As part of the experience, we welcomed qualified coaches to support the students with the activities as well as HAB staff joining in to support and maximise the year groups’ enjoyment of the afternoon.
The programme aims to remove participation barriers by equipping each student with a sport bra. The Girls Allowed event organisers gifted each student with a Nike sports bra. To see more photos from the day, click HERE.
“It was a huge success, the students had fun, they were all active and enjoyed taking part in sports and physical activities," said Ms Kelly. "The teachers enjoyed themselves too with lots of dancing! Thank you to everyone involved that helped to make the event possible."
