Dance Club Perform at Royal Academy of Dance Event
A dedicated group of Year 9 students from the after-school dance club performed at an inter-school dance sharing event, called Step Around Town, run by the Royal Academy of Dance at Bacon's College in April.
They performed a piece called The Door - a contemporary dance piece exploring the fear of what lies beyond the door you are trying to open.
Do we all, at some point, battle with the voices inside our head telling us not to reach out beyond our comfort zone? Will the outside world be watching us or is the outside world actually full of people, just like ourselves, trying to escape their inner demons?
The starting point for the movement came from ‘Recovery’ choreography by Janelle Ginestra and was fragmented and interwoven with pedestrian movement, narrative images and contact work.
The students worked exceptionally hard preparing for the performance and performed beautifully at the event, also taking advantage of the opportunity to freestyle along with students from other schools during an improvised finale.
