HAB Gardening Club Is Growing Fast
The Summer term welcomed the Gardening Club into the HAB Wellbeing Garden.
After a wet and warm Spring, there was much weeding to be completed, but the girls ‘dug down’ and brought a competitive element to the task – the Year 9 were determined to remove the most… and they did!
It was great to see so many Gardening Club members at the planting party in May, when the girls dug a bed for shrubs donated by The Woodland Trust to help create a natural border which will give more privacy to the performance area.
Year 9 are the weeding champions!
Over the last few weeks the gardeners have been planting in the raised bed so we can have our first HAB salad in time for the Summer. The Year 7 lettuce and rocket will be topped with Year 8 radishes and Year 9 Spring onions – a great side salad for a Summer bar-b-q. We will have to wait until Autumn for the Year 10 carrot and coriander soup!
The lunchtime Gardening Club meets every Thursday, and pupils bring a packed lunch to eat at the beginning in the wellbeing area. It’s been great to see so many girls interested in the garden, learning about plants, nature and how to use a garden hose without soaking everyone!
We will be hosting another garden party before the summer holidays so keep your eyes peeled.
