HAB’s First Anti-Racism Community Voice Project Starts
Students across Year 7-11 were selected to take part in HAB’s first Anti-Racism Community Voice project on 2nd February. All voluntary participants were given an opportunity to voice their opinions and discuss race within our school context.
Students shared personal experiences and reflected on the following:
- What makes me, me?
- What is real inclusion and diversity?
- The power of representation and fictive kinship.
We hope to grow HAB into an ever more equitable and just place for the community that we serve. We recognise that we are very much in the formative stages of this work but look forward to the continuation of our relaunch. One student in Year 11 said “Thank you Miss for giving me a chance and amplifying my voice”.
“I understand the racial disparities that exist within the education sector but refuse to accept them," said Miss Mbuyamba. "My hope and inspiration are that by being visible and active as a Black school leader, I can encourage, motivate, and inspire children from our HAB community to achieve beyond any limiting expectations which have been placed upon them."
Details regarding our student Anti Racism Team to follow. Should you have any further questions or wish to express an interest, please email Miss Mbuyamba directly.
The mission of The Prosperity Project (formerly Building Anti Racist Education) is to make schools a safe place for people of all racial backgrounds in the UK. We recognise that school is a place where we can challenge the normalisation of many forms of racism and understand that is imperative that we build a responsive system; a system where all members of staff and students are acknowledged and heard.
