Dance, Diversity, and Unity: A Vibrant Journey through Afrobeat Heritage
A special visitor, Akay, a Professional Dancer and Content Creator of Nigerian and Jamaican descent, took the lead in guiding a hand picked group of students through an enriching African Dancing Workshop.
Akay infused her choreography with a unique and inspired cultural essence. Expressing her passion for teaching, Akay emphasised the power of dance in bringing people together and highlighted the numerous physical and mental benefits it offers. From strengthening the body to developing coordination, rhythm, confidence, and self-assurance, she proudly acknowledged that "HAB students have the moves."
Reflecting on the workshop, Kaaliyah, a Year 7 student, shared her enthusiasm, saying, "I really enjoyed the session, and I love dancing. I plan on practising the dance at home so I can showcase it to my family."
Beyond serving as a platform for dance instruction, the workshop played a crucial role in fostering a sense of unity amongst the participants and instilling a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage embedded in Afrobeats.
