Review of A Christmas Carol by Swabra, Year 12
A short version of A Christmas Carol was performed this week (12th December) with a fantastic cast made up of students from Years 7, 8 and 9. It was open to all students, staff, parents and carers, and was a gripping interpretation of Charles Dickens' famous novella that encourages amicability and kindness towards others. Having this production was a great way to end the year!
It has been a wonderful opportunity for years 7, 8 and 9 to collaborate on a project, and it was extremely beneficial for our current Year 10 and 11 students who have studied or soon will be studying the novella; it is always interesting to see what you read on paper put into action!
I spoke to Dr Elsden (Head of Production), who said that "the performance is a great experience for students, as it is an opportunity to have lead parts which help build confidence.”
Yaa, a Year 9 student who played the Ghost of Jacob Marley, felt that taking part in the production has helped her “work on her confidence and projection and with other issues I face, such as memorisation and acting”. She enjoyed working with other people and appreciates constructive criticism she receives on her acting, as it helps her to improve her acting skills and perform to the best of her ability. “It was fun working with others and creating new bonds with people in a new setting."
Fortunately, this will not be the only exciting HAB production - be sure to keep your eyes peeled for next year's production!
