Celebrating Black History Month: A Vibrant African Drumming and Dance Workshop
As part of our Black History Month celebrations, the HAB Library recently hosted a vibrant and engaging workshop focused on African drumming and dancing. Led by a skilled session leader, the workshop provided an immersive cultural experience for our students, offering them a fascinating insight into various African countries, the tribes of Zimbabwe, and the unique traditions of the leader's own tribe.
Students were not just spectators; they actively participated in the workshop, learning the Zulu Warrior dance and getting hands-on experience with African drumming. The excitement was palpable as students enthusiastically practised the rhythmic movements and beats, bringing the energy of African traditions to life.
The workshop was described by students as exciting, energising, and a one-of-a-kind experience. Siham, one of the participants, expressed her enjoyment, saying, “I really enjoyed learning about the African warrior dance.”
Isra said, "I liked yesterday because it was fun to learn about Africa and learn the dance of Thuba's people. I liked everything about yesterday because it was no much fun!"
This event not only provided an entertaining experience but also deepened students’ understanding of African culture and history, making it a memorable part of our Black History Month celebrations. We are proud to continue fostering an inclusive and educational environment that celebrates diversity and encourages learning beyond the classroom.
