Harris Academy Bermondsey Triumphs in C3L6 Chemistry Competition
Harris Academy Bermondsey has achieved remarkable success in the prestigious C3L6 Chemistry competition, a national “mini-Chemistry Olympiad” organised by St Catherine's College, Cambridge. This competition is tailored for Year 12 pupils, taking them significantly beyond the standard syllabus and encouraging them to think about science with the depth and rigour expected at the university level.
Last academic year, Harris Academy Bermondsey's students demonstrated outstanding performance, securing four Bronze awards and one Silver award. The Silver award was earned by Sweatha, whose exceptional performance set a new benchmark for the school and the entire Harris Federation. These accolades represent the best results ever achieved by Harris Academy Bermondsey in this competition.
The C3L6 Chemistry competition challenges students with advanced exam questions that delve into complex topics such as the structure of arsenic compounds and Perfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS), often referred to as “forever chemicals” due to their persistent nature in the environment. These questions are designed to stretch students' understanding and encourage them to approach scientific problems with the analytical mindset required in higher education.
Harris Academy Bermondsey's success in this competition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of its students. By excelling in such a challenging and competitive environment, these students have not only showcased their chemistry knowledge but also their ability to tackle university-level scientific inquiries.
