HAB6 Mayor’s Fund for London
HAB6 students recently participated in a series of impactful mock interviews as part of the Access Aspiration NCS Experiences, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Fund for London. This initiative brought corporate partner volunteers from high-profile industries such as law and architecture into the school to provide students with personalised interview experiences designed to boost confidence and refine employability skills.
Philip Jolly, the Employment Programmes Manager from the Mayor’s fund for London commented “I was really pleased to see our mock interviews in action at the school - all part of our Access Aspiration NCS Experiences. My biggest takeaway is how brilliant the students were and how much they took away from spending time with our corporate partner volunteers. There was an amazing energy in the room, and you could tangibly feel the confidence, motivation and new skills that the students were building!"
A HAB6 student said “The feedback from my interviewer really helped me reflect on what I could do better.”
Another added: “My mock interviewer was really nice, so it wasn’t awkward.”
The volunteers were equally impressed, praising the students for their confidence, professionalism, and the range of extracurricular activities they are involved in. Many expressed excitement about the potential of recruiting such talented individuals into their businesses in the future.
These mock interviews are part of a broader series of work-readiness experiences offered by the Mayor’s Fund for London, which also include motivational speaker sessions, employer talks, and work experience placements. These initiatives aim to equip young Londoners, particularly those from working-class or intermediate backgrounds, with essential skills and the confidence to succeed.
Statistics from the Mayor’s Fund for London highlight the impact of such programmes:
- 75% of participants are from working-class or intermediate backgrounds.
- 85% are from Global Majority backgrounds, helping to close the ethnicity pay gap in London.
Bronwen, a representative from the Mayor’s Fund, shared her admiration for the event, saying:
“The students were truly impressive. The volunteers were blown away by their confidence and how well they presented themselves during the interviews. Thank you to Toni, Olga, and Tania for your efforts in making this a success.”
The experience was more than just a chance to practise interviews. It offered students a valuable glimpse into professional environments, fostering inspiration and motivation. HAB6 is proud to work with organisations like the Mayor’s Fund for London to ensure its students are equipped to overcome barriers and thrive in their future careers.
As HAB6 continues to champion opportunities for all its students, these experiences are proving to be a vital springboard for the next generation of leaders.
