Year 9 FirstGive Project
As part of the PSHE curriculum delivered at HAB, this half term, Year 9 students are participating in the FirstGive project. In this project, each Year 9 tutor group will choose a local charity and plan a social action and/or fundraising event to support their local charity.
Tutor Group 9A, led by Ms Daltrey, have chosen to support ‘The eXcel Project’ (XLP), who help to reduce gang violence in more than six boroughs across London, including Southwark. On Thursday 14th of November, 9A were visited by Tim, the fundraising manager at XLP, who spoke to 9A about the impact XLP have in the communities they serve. XLP provides mentoring to young people through providing them with the tools to help them navigate life. They also provide various creative and sporting workshops to young people, free of charge. XLP also operate a ‘community’ bus that drives to different areas, equipped with gaming stations, hair tools, a music production studio, and other facilities for young people to use.
After Tim’s visit, 9A have been inspired to raise funds and create social action in support of XLP.
9A is currently planning on delivering an assembly to the other year groups, to educate them about the impactful work of XLP, hosting a charity bake sale and ‘own clothes day’ where proceeds to directly to XLP.
