Harris Academy Bermondsey Hosts Annual Age UK Christmas Lunch
Harris Academy Bermondsey once again opened its doors to welcome guests from Age UK Southwark for Christmas lunch, bringing festive cheer, warmth, and companionship to the elderly members of the community. The event was a heart-warming celebration filled with laughter, music, and an abundance of Christmas spirit.
Fifteen guests from Age UK attended the lunch, including Jess, who expressed her joy in celebrating the occasion with the students. The afternoon featured a lively quiz, a raffle, and a delicious Christmas meal, all accompanied by a beautiful musical performance on the clarinet, flute, and guitar. Guests thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment and praised the HAB students who went above and beyond to ensure that all guests felt welcomed and cared for. Their attentiveness and kindness did not go unnoticed, with glowing feedback from attendees who described them as phenomenal. The young volunteers were dedicated to making the event a success, waiting on guests with warmth and enthusiasm.
Elhana, one of the student volunteers, reflected on her experience, saying, "It was very fun to help out, and all of our guests were so kind and nice to talk to. We played many games and had a great time together. This was a new experience for me since I don't interact with the elder community very often, as my grandparents do not live in this country."
Long-time guests Wendy and Stephen were particularly impressed, sharing, "Each year we come here, and every time we are exceptionally happy to be served by the students. We wish them all the best for the future, as they already have an incredible amount of social skills."
Graham and Liz, expressed their appreciation, saying, "Harris Academy is great! We look forward to coming back next year."
This marks the fourth annual Age UK Christmas lunch at Harris Academy Bermondsey, and it continues to be a cherished tradition that strengthens intergenerational bonds and spreads festive joy. The school community is already looking forward to hosting the event again next year, ensuring that the spirit of giving and togetherness remains a joyful tradition.
