Annual Literary Tea Party: A Magical Celebration of Reading and Creativity!
On Wednesday, 13th February, a selected group of students stepped into a world of wonder at our much-anticipated annual Literary Tea Party. Hosted by the Library, this enchanting event celebrates students who have shown outstanding dedication to literacy—whether by borrowing books regularly, producing exceptional creative writing, volunteering in the Library, mastering hundreds of new words in Bedrock, or serving as inspiring literacy role models for their peers.
From the moment they arrived, students were immersed in an afternoon of excitement and creativity. They decorated gingerbread people at the whimsical Mad Hatter's Tea Party, brewed potions using spells from ancient magical texts, and designed stunning jewellery inspired by their favourite books. Izzy shared, "Potions making was fun. My first potion was disgusting but I enjoyed the second one!"
The thrill continued as students channelled their inner Katniss Everdeen in an exhilarating archery challenge before testing their literary knowledge in a lively game of charades. Zaynab expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "I really enjoyed the literary tea party! I had fun with friends and got to try amazing and fun activities for the first time. I would definitely like to go again!"
The event left a lasting impression on all who attended. Aamna summed up the experience, explaining that the event was "really fun, I hope they do it again next term."
As the celebration came to a close, Year 13 student Hiba reflected on the deeper significance of literacy, saying, "Reading is the key to unlocking the power that is knowledge. HAB always encourages our girls to read, especially in a world where girls and women are often shielded from knowledge. Thank you for providing the tools for girls to have a voice."
The Literary Tea Party was a truly unforgettable experience, celebrating the magic of books and the joy of learning. We can’t wait for next year’s event!
