Meet Anaeli's Five-Day Flour Baby
As part of our Personal Development programme, students at HAB can decide if they want to take part in the Flour Babies Project, which helps them mentally prepare and understand what a huge responsibility babies are, as well as being blessings and cute little bundles of joy, of course!
Pictured is Anaeli from Year 9 with her flour baby, which she called Evangeline. “It’s very heavy, about two kilos, which is hard to carry around, but it’s fun because it’s like having a real baby," said Anaeli.
"It reminds me of my baby cousin. It’s made me understand the responsibility of having a baby more. I could have been more caring by not putting it in my bag. I felt quite competitive and wanted to win the challenge of making a flour baby and carrying it around for five days. I think I will miss her when it’s all over tomorrow, but I will be kind of glad too.”
The flour babies project is replicated worldwide in social development, early childhood studies, and human behaviour classes. It exposes students to the roles and responsibilities of parents, with respect to raising children, including the characteristics of successful parenting.
