Special STEAM Day For Girls Joining In September
Earlier in March we welcomed our new cohort of HAB girls, who will be starting in September, to our annual STEAM 2023 event. Photo credit: Year 10 Photography Club – Hephzibah, Mame and Sharmya
Our wonderful Student Leaders led the visitors on their tour, giving them a taste of HAB life and answering their questions about ‘big school’.
The Year 7 helpers in each department greeted the new girls, proud to show off their new skills. The Year 7s helped our visitors bake energy bites, drill wooden heart key rings, play badminton, create DNA necklaces, dance like a Bollywood star and so much more! We have already received some lovely feedback from the night:
- “It was useful to see to see what it would be like when I go to the school here, the students were polite and welcoming.”
- “I enjoyed how the leaders were considerate of our feelings, they tried their best to include others – it was extremely interesting.”
The transition process is a recent memory for our current Year 7, so they understand the apprehensions felt by the pupils joining in September. The Welcome Booklet sent out after allocation day was created by pupils in Key Stage 3 and gives lots of tips to help the new HAB girls navigate transition.
We understand how daunting the move from primary school to secondary school can seem to the Year 6. That is why we provide lots of opportunities for the pupils to visit us at HAB and ease the transition process.
In the summer term we will host extra-curricular clubs on site, a Welcome Evening and Induction Day – it’s going to be a busy term! A huge thanks to the dedicated staff and pupils that make events like this successful – we can't wait for the new Year 7 to start.
