Celebration of International Women's Day
On Friday 1st March, a group of 19 dynamic Year 12 students embarked on an empowering journey to Harris City Academy at Crystal Palace to kick off our International Women's Day celebrations in style!
Organised by The National Literacy Trust in collaboration with Lancôme, this event was nothing short of spectacular. From captivating performances to inspiring discussions, our students were in for a treat from start to finish.
To kick things off, our students were treated to a thought provoking performance by the talented poet, Sophia Thakur. Her words igniting a spark of inspiration in each and every one.
Next up, students had the incredible opportunity to sit down for an intimate interview with Sophia herself. As she shared her own career journey and championed the importance of compassion and open communication, our students hung onto her every word.
The excitement continued as our students participated in a dynamic panel event featuring six extraordinary women who are leaders in their respective industries: Keeks Reid (Beauty Broadcaster), Nikki Adebiyi (Social Entrepreneur and Founder of Bounce Black), Cristiana Elena Dobre (Software Engineer), Rochelle Dancel (Design Director) and Zaahida Nabagereka (Senior Social Impact Manager for Lit in Colour) From hearing about their unconventional career paths to learning how they overcame workplace challenges, our students were on the edge of their seats, soaking in every word of wisdom.
And the fun didn't stop there! Our students also had the opportunity to flex their creative muscles in a writing workshop led by Sophia Thakur herself. With space to explore their own concerns and engage in discussions about supporting others in times of need, our students unleashed their inner poets, crafting heartfelt responses to the fears shared during the workshop.
As the day came to a close, there were tears, cheers, and an overwhelming sense of pride radiating from the crowd as students shared their insightful writing. The work produced by our students was nothing short of extraordinary, showcasing their depth of insight, compassion, and kindness. HAB's very own Iasmin and Jahnaey took to the stage to share their outstanding work with the audience.
