World Book Day 2024
Another incredible World Book Day has swept through the halls of HAB, and what a whirlwind of fun it was!
As I strolled down the corridors, I crossed paths with Anabeth from Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, Frankenstein and his monster, and Tris from Divergent. The lunch hall was transformed into a vibrant scene as students paraded in costumes inspired by their favourite book and comic characters!
During tutor time, students eagerly received their World Book Day vouchers. These vouchers open doors to a world of literary treasures, offering discounts on £1 World Book Day books at local bookshops or £1/€1.50 off full-price titles at participating retailers.
Break time was a book lover's paradise as our library morphed into a bustling bookshop. Students seized the opportunity to grab their favourite reads for just 5 HABits—a generous 50% discount from the usual price!
One of the most anticipated moments of our celebration is the grand book giveaway. Every single student at HAB received a brand new book, carefully selected to inspire and delight. Distribution began in English lessons on Thursday, with more to come on Friday.

This year, our love for reading reached beyond the school gates. During lunchtime, students had the chance to pick out children's book—perfect for toddlers or primary-aged children— to gift to younger siblings, cousins, or family friends. Witnessing their excitement and generosity was truly heart warming. One student said, ‘I used to love these books and every once in a while children deserve a break from their screen’ when asked why she was giving gifting a book to her little sister. Whilst another said, ‘We’ve got to start them young’ when explaining why she was gifting a book to her 4 month old cousin.
